Quick Update

It’s been quite a while since my last post, and there’s a very good reason for that. I had plenty of topics to talk about, but I’ve found myself not having a lot of time lately to write about those things.

On Sunday, April 14, we had our baby shower — which I will still blog about and share photos of — and that was followed by a busy week at work.

I had planned to write about the shower the following weekend. In fact, I’d planned to do a lot the following weekend… organize all the gifts from the baby shower in the nursery, take a baby safe course, pack our hospital bag, take a breastfeeding class, write some thank you notes (I’m now slowly but surely getting to those!), and have our maternity photo shoot.

And none of those things happened.

On Friday, April 19, I went in for one of my twice-weekly non-stress tests at Kaiser. Everything was going well — Rowan’s heart rate was great, and I wasn’t having any contractions. And then we got to the end of the appointment…

The nurse took my blood pressure, and the reading was high. She said we’d wait a few minutes and then take it again. Once again, it was high. The nurse went to talk to the doctor, and when she came back, what she said really took me off guard.

“We’re going to have you go to the hospital. They’ll likely monitor you for a couple of hours. If your blood pressure comes down, they’ll send you home. If not, you’ll meet your baby!”

Holy cow… Obviously we’re expecting, so we know we’re going to have a baby, but the thought that it might be that weekend rather than when we were scheduled for an induction (May 5) really threw me for a loop.

As it turns out, we did have a baby that weekend! At 1:11 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, Rowan Dennis Jackson was born! He weighed 7 lbs., 9 oz. and was 19.5″ long.

I’ll tell you all about the baby shower and my labor experience in upcoming blogs. Hopefully they’ll start being more regular again, but it’ll depend on if I can find the time. Life with a one-month-old really is a whole new world!

As an interesting side note, below is the last bump pic I took — it’s from 36 weeks. Looking back, it’s crazy to think I wouldn’t make it to 37 weeks to do another bump pic.

See you (hopefully) again in the next couple of weeks!
