Rowan’s EKG

It feels like lately I’m starting off every blog with an apology about missing a week, and I am sorry I missed last week. It was a little busy at work, and then after that, I managed to pick up a nasty chest cold.

Anyway, it’s finally time to get back on track and keep you updated with the pregnancy.

Early on, my OBGYN had mentioned we’d need to schedule an echo-cardiogram (EKG) later in my pregnancy. It’s a precaution they take with IVF babies. It turns out, IVF can cause an elevated risk for heart defects. It’s still rare, but they like to be sure.

Since this meant seeing Rowan on the same 3D ultrasound machine used in our anatomy scan, I had no objections.

The day of the EKG arrived, and everything was looking good, as usual. Also as usual, Rowan was being a little difficult for the ultrasound tech. He was in a position where some of the measurements they needed couldn’t be taken.

The doctor assured me it was nothing to worrry about. They could try and get those measurements at our next appointment, the growth scan.

All in all, Rowan’s little ticker is looking just fine, and there are no major concerns. And, as usual, we got another great pic of our little boy to take home! He’s going to have quite the scrapbook even before he’s born!

Also, as a quick update to the last blog, Unintended Consequences, the Alabama legislature did pass a law protecting IVF. Most fertility services have now resumed, and I’m incredibly grateful for that.

However, as grateful as I am, I’m honestly not sure we’re out of the woods yet. This whole debacle has raised some big questions for the pro-life movement and their political allies.

I’ve been waiting for something like this to happen ever since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022. I guess, for now, only time will tell.
