A few blogs ago, I shared about our special Great Dane, Aurora. I thought it only fair I share a little bit about Harvey, our Pitbull mix, too. But first, Harvey has a very special announcement he’d like to share…

That’s right… our embryo transfer worked! Harvey’s going to be a big fur brother. We’re due in May 2024. : )
I promise I’ll share more details about how we got the news, how I surprised Nick, and how the rest of the medications went in next week’s blog.
For now, back to Harvey’s tail… I mean, tale.
In Spring 2022, we were on the lookout for our next “foster fail.” It was becoming more and more clear that Aurora was getting lonelier in her old age, and she really needed a permanent brother.
Harvey (then known as Banana) came into our lives as a foster that April. He was scrawny (SOOO scrawny!) but had a super cute face. And despite that adorable face, my first thought was, “We should foster him. I’m not sure he’s one we’d want to keep.” (Not to say there was anything wrong with him; he was just so different from any dog we’d had before.)
Life has a funny way of throwing your words (or thoughts) back at you sometimes.
Harvey and Aurora instantly got along, and it didn’t take much time for him to win both Nick and I over. He was super sweet and so well-behaved. He’d come into the shelter as a stray, so we don’t know anything about his history, but he fit perfectly into our lives and our home.
Before we decided to make it official, we asked a good friend who has kids (and also has Pitbulls) to see if Harvey could meet her kiddos (thank you, Jami!). We wanted to make sure he was good with kids since we were trying.
He was a perfect gentleman!
He’s since been around more kiddos, and he’s very sweet and gentle. Harvey is going to be an excellent fur brother!
One of the things I love most about Harvey is how cuddly he is. He’s legitimately the cuddliest dog we’ve ever had. Anytime I’m on the couch, he’s right there next to me. When I’m working from home, he’s asleep at my feet. At night, he curls up next to me to sleep.
He’s one of those doggos that always wants to be around his people.
And if you’re wondering how he went from being Banana to Harvey, there are a couple of key points to that story. First, after he got loose at a softball game, I had to run across the field yelling “BANANA” like a crazy person. It was in that instant I knew his name would change if we kept him.
Second, once the decision was made, I knew what his name would be. His facial marking reminds me of Two Face from Batman, and Two Face’s real name is… Harvey Dent.
Stay tuned next week for more about Baby Jackson, and thanks for letting me share Harvey’s story.
