For some folks, asking for help isn’t all that easy; I’d say Nick and I both fit neatly into that box. This is why, a few months back, when a good friend asked if she could set up a GoFundMe page for us, we were both incredibly grateful. (Thank you, Jami!)
Throughout this journey, we have had friends and family reach out about wanting to help, and now we have a place where they can do that easily.
Read more: Asking for HelpHaving insurance coverage for the IVF procedure is going to be a HUGE help, but, as I shared last week, there will still be additional costs that aren’t covered.
Thanks to setting aside new FSA accounts in 2023, the insurance coverage, and a donation we received in 2022 from family members (thank you!*), we’re fairly confident our next round will be fully taken care of.
However, we also think it’s likely we’ll need to do two, if not three, rounds to have enough embryos to, hopefully, have two kiddos. Not all frozen embryo transfers work, and the more embryos we have, the more likely it is we can have two kids.
Our tentative plan is to see how many–if any–viable embryos we get in the first round and make further plans based on those results.
If we get a couple of embryos in the first try, it’d be good for us to do another round and build up that bank a little more. If we get nothing again, it will likely be time for us to revisit other options, such as using a sperm donor or adopting embryos.
We have a doctor’s appointment coming up and will know more about our plan after that. I’ll share more about the appointment and our plan in the next couple of weeks.
Our ultimate goal on the GoFundMe page is $20,000. We estimate that should be enough to cover three rounds of medication and IVF. Because our plan is a bit in flux, it’s possible we won’t need to do three rounds.
No matter how much help we receive and how many IVF rounds we need, the donated funds will help us either get pregnant or support a newborn if we do get pregnant.
Nick and I will be eternally grateful for everything that comes from our fundraising page–whether it’s monetary donations, notes of encouragement, offers of prayers or good vibes–it will all help.

*Because I typically give personalized shoutouts on this blog, I wanted to provide a note on why I didn’t here. We never really discussed with these family members if they wanted to remain anonymous or not after their donation. If this couple would like me to name them in the post, please reach out, and I’d be happy to do so.
